Surface properties of a p-wave superconductor — •Mikael Fogelström and Andreas Poenicke — Institut für Theoretische Festkörperphysik, Universität Karlsruhe (TH)

A p-wave superconductor displays features such as order-parameter suppression and surface bound states, or Andreev Bound States, below the gap. The existence of sub-gap states is a signature of an unconventional order parameter which has sign changes around the Fermi surface. Probing the superconducting state by surface sensitive experiments such as NIS-tunneling or STM primarily detects the surface state which differs from the bulk state. A p-wave order parameter and thus a triplet pairing state has been proposed as a candidate for Sr2RuO4. A non-unitary order parameter and hence a superconducting state that breaks time-reversal symmetry has been discussed. We present a study of surface properties such as the order parameter profile and the local density of states for an unitary and a non-unitary p-wave order parameter. Also charge transport by tunneling (N-I-S) and through highly transparent geometrical constrictions (S-c-N) is discussed.
