We investigate Cu 2p3/2 X-ray photoemission spectra of low-dimensional undoped cuprates within a 3-band Hubbard model, using a cumulant projection technique. The interplay of charge- and spin-degrees of freedom is discussed. We compare the results to those of Quantum-Monte Carlo calculations, exact diagonalization calculations and to several experimental spectra.
