Discrimination of Electron and Nuclear Recoils by Simultaneous Detection of Light an Phonons — •P. Meunier — Max-Planck-Institut f"ur Physik, F"ohringer Ring 6, 80805 M"unchen

For particle dark matter searches it is of extreme importance to discriminate between electron recoils caused by electrons or photons and nuclear recoils caused by neutrons or dark matter candidates. We have developed a detector consisting of a calorimeter with a scintillating absorber. A particle interacting in this absorber will create phonons, which are measured in this calorimeter, and scintillation light. The scintillation light is detected with a second calorimeter. Both detectors have tungsten thermometers with a SQUID read-out and are operated at about 12mK. Principle and performance of these detectors will be presented.
