We have investigated the 73Br nucleus. High spin states in 73Br have been populated in connection with the reaction 40Ca(40Ca,α3p), using the 185 MeV beam delivered by the XTU Tandem accelerator of LNL Legnaro. Coincidences of γ rays, charged particles and neutrons have been measured using the EUROBALL III array. Rotational bands in 73Br have been investigated up to spins of J=65/2ℏ. One of the negative-parity bands displays the highest to date rotational frequency ℏ w=1.85 MeV. The bands have been interpreted in the configuration-dependent shell-correction approach within the cranking model. A configuration including protons and neutrons in the fpg9/2 shells is calculated to terminate at a non-collective γ=60 state and was assigned to one of the bands.
