Hydrodynamic Equations in Infinite Domains: What have we learned? — •Jean-Pierre Eckmann — Département de Physique Théorique, 32 Bld D’Yvoy, Université de Genève, 1211 Geneva 4, Switzerland

In this talk I will try to give an overview of work done on hydrodynamic equations such as the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation in infinite domains. I see the emergence, over the last ten years, of a body of results which comes close to being a theory: Stability, scaling and complexity seem to be better understood now and new results are being found regularly and in a systematic way for this and other equations. Furthermore, the influence of ideas from dynamical system seems to be successful. This is work of a large group of people: Bricmont, Collet, Gallay, Kupiainen, Mielke, Schneider, Wayne, just to name a few with whose work I am most familiar.
