The ZEUS Silicon Microvertex Detector — •Ignacio Redondo — DESY/Madrid University, Notkestr. 85, 22603 Hamburg

The ZEUS experiment will be upgraded with a high resolution silicon vertex detector(MVD) during the HERA shutdown of the year 2000. The MVD consists of a 60 cm long barrel part (600 diodes in 3 double layers) devoted to measure in the central region, and four forward wheels (112 diodes), which will allow to cover the region of small angles with respect to the proton beam direction. Its high position resolution and the location next to the interaction point will make the MVD an essential handle for beauty tagging. The single sided diodes have p+ strips (20 µm pitch) implantated on the n bulk (300 µm thickness). The signal of every sixth strip is read-out. The front-end electronics will be located on the same structure that supports the diodes. Several silicon diodes and modules are being tested with an electron beam at DESY. The layout of the detector and of the test beam setup will be shown. Also the inter-strip calibration and resolution studies with a forward wheel detector will be presented.
