Theory of Scaling in the QHE — •Bodo Huckestein — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität zu Köln, D-50937 Köln

The plateau transitions in the integer quantum Hall effect are

one of the most thoroughly studied examples of quantum phase

transitions. Ideas of scaling theory have successfully been

applied to the analysis of numerical simulations leading to

quantitative agreement with experiments. The present talk will

focus on the joint effects of Coulomb interactions and disorder

in the integer QHE as well as compare the predictions of scaling

theory with recent experiments on the fate of the QHE at low

magnetic fields.
