Enhanced resonant backscattering on quantum wells: Probing the exciton localization — •Vincenzo Savona, Erich Runge, and Roland Zimmermann — Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

The resonant Rayleigh scattering on quantum wells with disordered interfaces allows to study the properties of exciton eigenfunctions subject to disorder [1]. By means of numerical simulations of the scattering process, we study the enhancement of the backscattered intensity, known to occur for light scattering in diffuse media. An enhancement is predicted on the high-energy tail of the exciton line. It can in principle be observed for realistic values of the disorder strength and correlation length. We suggest an experimental check of this effect using a standard optical detection geometry. We discuss how the angular broadening of the backscattering peak can be related to the energy-dependent exciton localization length.
