A model for nanotubes, recently discovered complex many-atomic structures with multitude of collectivized electrons, and a simple approach to the problem of collective electrons oscillations as a whole in a nanotube, are suggested. The frequencies of the oscillations of the electronic cloud along the axis of a nanotube ω a and perpendicular to it ω t are calculated, as well as the frequency of the radial so called breathing mode ω b. It is assumed that the total charge of the ions in the nanotube is distributed homogeneously on the surface of a cylinder of the radius Rn and the collective electrons are located within a layer with inner and outer radiuses Rn and Re. The length of the nanotube is l. Then it is obtained for the collective frequencies ω a = 0.481(Re/l)1/2ω 0 and ω t=(2δ e)−1/2ω 0 = 1.30 ω 0, where ω 0 is the plasma frequency of the collective electrons and δ e is the thickness of the electron layer. Our results for ω 0 is 27.1 eV, and for ω t is 376 eV. These collective oscillations can be observed in photon absorption and charged particles inelastic scattering.
