Molecular Dynamics Simulation for Laser Induced Coulomb Explosion of Metal Clusters — •Th. Fennel, S. Teuber, T. Döppner, J. Tiggesbäumker, and K.H. Meiwes–Broer — Universität Rostock, FB Physik, Universitätsplatz 3, 18051 Rostock

The exposure of metal clusters to strong laser fields leads to a Coulomb explosion of highly charged atomic fragments. Ions and electrons with high kinetic energies are produced. In order to describe dynamical processes of the ionic motion in laser induced Coulomb explosions of metal clusters a classical numerical model has been developed. For investigating the particle recoil energy dependence on the charge state and laser pulse width various simulations have been done using parameters taken from earlier experiments [1]. Both the maximum kinetic energy and the shape of the energy spectra are compared to measured data. Although energy values are slightly underestimated for all cases the fully classical isomer-sensitive model is capable to estimate the energy distribution for a given charge characteritic. The time depentend particle density evolution has been investigated for PT55. Our model gives time scales for the ionic response due to the driving coulomb forces.
