(e, 2e) AND (e, [3-1]e) MEASUREMENTS FOR He+ ION STATES — •MEVLUT DOGAN1 and ALBERT CROWE21Department of Physics, University of Kocatepe, AFYON, TURKEY — 2Department of Physics, University of Newcastle, Newcastle, NE1 7RU, UK

(e,2e) reactions play an important and occasionally dominant role in several areas of atomic and molecular physics. (e,2e) experiments allow, depending on the kinematical parameters, either a direct insight into the correlated motion of the two electrons in the initial state, or to unravel in a fundamental way the dynamical electron-electron correlation during the collision. These kinds of experiments yield the ultimate information obtainable on the collision dynamics, contributing to the understanding of the N-body problem in atomic physics. In the present work, the electron impact ionization of helium to the n=1,2,3,4 ionic states and double ionization have been studied using asymmetric kinematics. In the [e,(3-1)e] study of double ionization scattered electron of 110 eV and one of the ejected electron energy of 10 eV were detected, leaving the third undetected electron with an energy of 1 eV. This work is supported by EPSRC and Afyon Kocatepe University.
