Electron scattering from disilane molecules. — •Czesław Szmytkowski, Paweł Możejko, and Grzegorz Kasperski — Atomic Physics Division, Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics, Technical University of Gdańsk, ul. G. Narutowicza 11/12, 80-952 Gdańsk

The absolute grand total cross section for electron-Si2H6 scattering have been measured, for the first time, from 1 to 370 eV in a linear transission experiment.

The most visible feature of the e-Si2H6 total cross section energy dependence is the broad resonant-like enhancement located at low energies. Between 1.5 and 20 eV, the cross section function consists of two stuctures: the first more prominent peak located near 2.5 eV has the maximum value of 78× 10−20 m2, the second weaker structure appears close to 7 eV. Similar, two-peaked enhancement was observed in cross section of ethane molecule, of the same geometry. Moreover, it is clear that substitution of silicon atom in the place of the carbon effects in the shift of the resonant peak position from 7 eV for ethane to much lower energies for disilane. For higher energies total cross section monotonically decreases down to the value of 11.4× 10−20 m2 at 370 eV.

The work has been sponsored, in part, by the KBN through the Grant No. 215/PO3/99/17.
