Pure long-range ion-pair K2 molecule:satellite band in the blue wing of a second doublet — •Goran Pichler, Ticijana Ban, and Hrvoje Skenderovic — Institute of physics, P.O. Box 304, HR-10001 Zagreb, Croatia

In this work we shall discuss the origin of the blue satellite band observed in the blue wing of the second principal series doublet of potassium. The interpretation relies on the recent ab initio potential curves for Cs2 and Rb2 dimers, where the spin-orbit interaction has been taken into account [1]. We point out that the existence of several avoided crossings of the ion-pair curves and electrostatic potential curves from different spin-orbit asymptotes, lead to the fromation of these blue satellite bands. These avoided crossings also lead to the formation of the bound molecular states entirely in the pure long-range region, around 40 Bohr. We also discuss the possibility of making ultracold ion-pair K2 molecules, by means of the phtoassociation of the colliding pair of ultracold atoms. [1] Rousseau S., Allouche A.
