Coincident projectile energy loss and electron emission in grazing collisions of fast hydrogen atoms from a LiF(001) surface — •Sven Lederer1, Axel Mertens1, Klaus Maass1, Helmut Winter1, Johannes Stöckl2, Hannspeter Winter2, and Friedrich Aumayr21Institut für Physik der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Germany) — 2Institut für Allgemeine Physik der Technischen Universität Wien (Austria)

Coincident measurements of projectile time-of-flight and electron multiplicities for grazing scattering of fast hydrogen atoms with energies ranging from 0.3 to 350 keV from a LiF(001) surface allow us to study electron excitation and emission processes, including those without emission of electrons. With this method we are able to study very small electron emission yields and thus the kinetic threshold behaviour of electronic excitation and emission, and to derive details on the interaction mechanisms.
