The FERRUM project: a status report — •Hans Karlsson — Lund University, Box 118, 221 00 Lund, Sweden

The FERRUM Project is an international collaboration which aims at extending and improve the existing database of oscillator strengths for iron group elements by combining experimental, observational and theoretical data. We have started with an investigation of E1, M1 and E2 transitions in Fe II.

The latest work in the Fe II project reports on experimental f-values for the 4p-5s transition array in Fe II. New measurements of radiative lifetimes of four 3d65s levels at about 10 eV will be presented along with absolute oscillator strengths for 20 4p-5s transitions involving the four levels. The experimental measurements are compared with theoretical calculations. The lines are of interest in the modeling of Fe II fluorescence in some astrophysical plasmas showing emission lines.

Four papers in the Ferrum project have been published. Three of them concern f-values for two transition arrays, 4s-4p and 4p-4d. We have also measured lifetimes of metastable states of Fe II which provide data for parity-forbidden lines, often observed in low-density astrophysical plasmas.
