Influence of Silicon Species Ablated from the Transparent Quartz Wall on Dynamics of Plasma Processes in a Xenon Flash Lamp — •Sergei Raikov and Victor Burakov — Institute of Molecular and Atomic Physics, 220072 Minsk, Belarus

Ablation of the transparent quartz wall of a flash lamp plays one of the major roles in plasma evolution during a high-current pulsed electric discharge in gases at lowered pressures. Dynamics of evaporation and dissociation of SiO2 and especially the influence of Si species on gas plasma parameters has been investigated mainly qualitatively. par The quartz flash lamp with quartz windows specially designed for laser probing is located in the dye laser cavity. The effective path length of laser radiation through the lamp reaches 1 km for the 10-µs laser pulse. par Pure xenon plasma without seen presence of silicon was possible to realize only at the lowest available discharge energies. At increase of the energy the dynamics of plasma drastically varies. SiI-SiIII species have been detected down to the end of the discharge and in the afterglow. SiO2 ablation and Si species appearance in plasma is accompanied by sharp decrease of gas species densities at the excited levels. At the end of the discharge the energetic threshold of quartz evaporation is not reached, therefore the excited levels of gas species are repeatedly populated almost up to the starting values.
