Nonperturbative calculation of projectile electron loss, target ionization, and capture in He+ + Ne collisions — •Tom Kirchner and Marko Horbatsch — Department of Physics and Astronomy, York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M3J 1P3

The He+ + Ne collision system, in which the projectile electron as well as the target electrons undergo inelastic transitions is investigated in the independent particle model with a time-dependent screening potential. We use the basis generator method to solve the single-particle equations for all electrons and combine the transition probabilities statistically to calculate charge-state correlated and more inclusive total cross sections in the energy range of 10 to 1000 keV/amu. Good agreement with available experimental data is found except for the lowest projectile energies, where it is indicated that a more refined dynamical screening model is required. We demonstrate the importance of Pauli blocking for the electron transfer to the dressed projectile and discuss the role of the electron-electron interaction between projectile and target electrons, which is not included in our model.
