Laser Spectroscopic Hyperfine Structure Investigation of Neutral Praseodymium Combined with Parametric Theory — •G.H. Guthöhrlein1, H.-O. Behrens1, J. Dembczyński2, E. Stachowska2, and J. Ruczkowski21Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Laboratorium für Experimentalphysik, Holstenhofweg 85, D-22043 Hamburg, Germany — 2Chair of Atomic Physics, Poznań University of Technology, Piotrowo 3, 60-965 Poznań, Poland

In the spectrum of neutral Praseodymium (Z = 59; A = 141) the electron configurations are built of up to four open shells outside the closed core. Most of the spectral lines are multiple blends. Owing to this, the only way to get deeper insight into the structure of the level scheme was doing single mode tunable cw laser excitation combined with the observation of the laser induced fluorescence (LIF). The quantum numbers: J-value and parity, and the observables: hyperfine interaction constants, which are very useful in the course of identification of the newly found levels, were determined uniquely by evaluating the hyperfine structure (hfs) of the lines under study. Moreover, an important interplay between the experiments (mostly performed in Hamburg) and the parametric atomic theory calculations both for the fine structure and for the hyperfine structure (performed in Poznań) was started from the very beginning of our common analysis project. An overview of our results is given with special emphasis on the even parity level subsystem (included configurations: 4f25d26s, 4f25d6s2, 4f36s6p , 4f35d6p and 4f25d3). The comparison between experimental results and parametric theory demonstrates the progress of the knowledge of this complex atomic level system.
