Spectral line classification in Pr I by LIF-techniques — •Hans-Otto Behrens, Marion Bette, and Günter H. Guthöhrlein — Laboratorium für Experimentalphysik, Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Holstenhofweg 85, 22043 Hamburg

Characterizing properties of an energy level are, among others, its J-value, its hyperfine constants and the set of fluorescence lines showing laser induced fluorescence (LIF). These characteristics are like a finger print of the specific energy level. The hyperfine structure (hfs) of a spectral line is uniquely determined by the finger prints of the combining levels. The careful evaluation of the hfs of a spectral line measured by LIF-techniques yields the J-values and the magnetic hyperfine constants (in the case of praseodymium the quadrupole interaction is negligibly small). These data together with the set of spectral lines showing LIF yield the finger prints of the combining levels of the transition. By the evaluated finger prints the combining levels of a heretofore non-classified spectral line can be identified. The classification procedure of Pr I spectral lines measured by LIF will be outlined, classification results presented and compared with parametric calculations on fine and hyperfine structure performed in Orsay [1] and Poznań [2].
