Organic multilayers are of great interest for optoelectronic applications such as organic light emitting diodes, lasers and solar cells. The use of low-molecular glasses allows a detailed design of specific sequences of functional layers and the preparation of devices by vacuum vapor deposition. We performed calculations based on transfer matrix methods in order to show the intensity distribution of waveguide modes which can be used for stimulated emission. The effective mode indices are measured by prism and grating coupling experiments. For the latter, we incorporated gratings with high outcoupling efficiency into one waveguide layer by direct holographic writing. Adjustment strategies of the grating constant for achieving distributed feedback are presented.
