Spectroscopy of single Molecules in Nano-crystals — •Jan Zitzmann, Sergei Kühn, Christian Hettich, Carmen Schmitt, and Vahid Sandoghdar — Universität Konstanz, Fachbereich Physik, Fach M696, D-78457 Konstanz, Germany, http://www.uni-konstanz.de/quantum-optics/nano-optics

Recently we have shown that a fluorescent molecule inside a micro-crystal can be used as a point-like light source in microscopy[1]. We could image the local transmission of a sample by measuring the emission of the fluorescent dye. The resolution in this experiment was limited by the distance of the dye molecule from the surface of the crystal. In this contribution we present nanoscopic para-terphenyl crystals in which the hosted terrylene molecules are evidently close to the surface. We show that photostable molecules exist in these crystals, which can be used as local probes of their crystal environment.
