Circular dichroism of chiral camphor molecules in angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy — •T. Lischke, N. Böwering, B. Schmidtke, N. Müller, T. Khalil, and U. Heinzmann — Universität Bielefeld, Fakultät für Physik, 33501 Bielefeld

The dichroism in the photoelectron emission intensity in the angular distribution (CDAD) by photoionisation of randomly oriented chiral molecules with circular polarized light was investigated for the two handed enantiomers of camphor and bromocamphor. We have observed comparatively large asymmetries which can only be described by an additional term to the usual photoelectron angular distribution [1, 2]. Angle resolved measurements were executed in the gas-phase of the substances with circularly polarized radiation in the photon energy range of 14 to 23 eV at the 6.5 m NIM at BESSYI. The photoelectrons emitted in forward- and backward direction were simultaneously recorded by means of two identical rotatable hemispherical spectrometers mounted opposite to each other. Both substances exhibit CDAD effects depending on energy and angle, which varies for different electron orbital energy. The asymmetries have similar magnitude and up to ± 4%.
