Design of a Compact, High-Resolution Reflectron Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer — •Maria Kulawik, Klaus Rademann, and Wolfgang Christen — Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Institut für Physikalische und Theoretische Chemie, Bunsenstr. 1, 10117 Berlin

The improvement of the resolution of time-of-flight mass spectrometers is subject to a large number of publications. Recently, U. Even and B. Dick reported the design of a linear, high resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer with very homogeneous acceleration fields [Rev. Sci. Instr., 71, 4415, (2000)]. Field optimization was done numerically. We extend this approach to the design of a compact, high-resolution reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer suitable for the study of large molecules and molecular clusters.
