On Spectroscopic Determination of the Degree of Dissociation of H2 in Pulse Modulated Microwave Discharge — •Andrei V. Pipa1, Norbert Lang2, Boris P. Lavrov1, and Jürgen Röpcke21Institute of Physics, St.-Petersburg State University, 198904, Russia — 2Institut für Niedertemperatur-Plasmaphysik, 17489 Greifswald, Germany

A well-known spectroscopic method to determine the degree of dissociation of hydrogen based on measurement of ratios of certain atomic and molecular emissions (Devyatov et al, 1991) has been corrected and modified by accurate taking into account: 1) the vibro-rotational structure of Fulcher-α bands (previously neglected), and 2) in the emission rate coefficients the existence of the fine structure of Balmer lines (shown to be important in spite of being unresolved in experiment). The method was applied for studies of the degree of dissociation of hydrogen in DC and rectangular modulated microwave discharges in (H2+He, Ar) mixtures. The intensities of the first five Q-branch lines of (2-2) Fulcher-α band and the Doppler broadening of atomic Hα and molecular spectral lines have been used for the determination of the gas temperature. Then the degree of dissociation was obtained from the intensities of Hα, Hβ and (2-2)Q1 lines. This work was supported in part by DAAD, DFG and RFBR (Grant No 00-03-32922a).
