The Langmuir-Tonks model for multi-component plasmas — •Hans-Burkhard Valentini — Institut fuer Physikalische Hochtechnologie, 07702 Jena

Plasmas containing several positive ion species often occur in the plasma diagnostics and the plasma technology. The Langmuir-Tonks model is generalized to multi-ion plasmas [1]. Boundary conditions can be given for each ion species at points with special geometric or physical properties within the plasma. In addition, one boundary condition can be obtained at the sheath edge when the quasi-neutral model is considered or at a wall or an electrode if the space charge is taken into account throughout the plasma. Dealing with one-step ionization processes, only, the solution of this boundary value problem can easily be reduced to the two-point BVP of the one-ion plasma [1]. Inappropriate statements found in the literature are corrected. Additionally, internal surfaces as probes and hydrodynamic models are briefly taken into consideration [2]. [1] H.-B. Valentini and F.
