Since the discovery of the generation of intense, high energy beams of electrons and ions from the interaction of ultra-intense CPA-laser light with solid targets in 1999 at the LLNL Petawatt Laser, many efforts were taken to investigate the qualities of the beam. In 2000 we performed experiments at the 100 Terawatt LULI laser. Among other interesting subjects we investigated the ion beam quantities depending on the target properties. We will describe the dependence on target material, thickness and surface quality, as well as on the laser beam parameters. Further methods to enhance the intensity and to reduce the emittance of the ion beam in order to use this processes as a fast, intense injector for ion beam accelerators will be presented.
