We report on the first expermintal observation of Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) in Y3AL5O12 and Y3Al5O12:Nd3+ single crystal. Multiple Stokes and anti-Stoks (up to the 11-th order ) generation which were excited at room temperature in the near-infrared indicate that these garnets feature considerable cubic nonlinear susceptibilities (χ(3)). The observed SRS effect seems strong enough to be taken into acount during the creation and use of powerful ultra-short pulsed laser on the basis of Y3AL5012 crystals doped with Ln3+ ions ( in particular, Nd3+ and Yb3+ ), as well as with the utilization of Y3Al5O12-crystalline fibers.
