Constructing measurements for A+B from measurements for A and B — •Dominik Janzing1 and Thomas Beth21Am Fasanengarten 5, 76131 Karlsruhe — 2Am Fasanengarten 5, 76131 Karlsruhe

We consider measurement processes for the observable A which project onto eigenstates of A. Since there is no obvious connection between the eigenspaces of A+B and those of A respectively B, it is not obvious how to relate the corresponding measurements either. We present an abstract model where a fixed interaction Hamiltonian between the measuring device and the measured system enables measurement procedures for every self-adjoint operator. Using Lie algebraic tools we construct procedures for the observables A+B, i[A,B], and AB+BA from those for A and B.
