Classification of mixed entangled states via witness operators — •Dagmar Bruss, Anna Sanpera, and Maciej Lewenstein — Inst. f. Theoret. Physik, Universität Hannover

The classification of mixed states according to their entanglement properties is still a formidable task in quantum information theory. Witness operators are shown to be a very useful tool in this context. With their help one can detect the Schmidt number of bipartite states. We introduce a classification scheme for mixed tripartite states and construct the relevant witness operators. Finally, results for properties of bound entangled states are presented.
