Low power SBS-mirrors based on fiber amplifier scheme — •Christoph Hänisch, Axel Heuer, and Ralf Menzel — Institute of Physics, Photonics Group, University of Potsdam, Am Neuen Palais 10, 14469 Potsdam

Stimulated Brillioun Scattering (SBS) is a well-known nonlinear optical effect for realizing phase conjugating mirrors (PCMs). Usual SBS-mirrors show an appreciable reflectiviy for light powers much larger then 1 kW. Decreasing this so-called SBS-threshold to less then 100 W was achieved by using waveguiding structures such as fibers or capillaries.

In this paper opical active fiber amplifiers were used as SBS-media for further threshold reduction. We report SBS-experiments in a Nd-doped phosphate glass fiber amplifier pumped at 808 nm by a Ti:sapphire laser. We also present a numerical simulation, wich describes the transient SBS-process in the fiber amplifier. The dynamics of the four-level amplifier system is included in the calculation.
