Simulation of single atom photon correlations — •Yevhen Miroshnychenko, S. Kuhr, W. Alt, D. Frese, V. Gomer, and D. Meschede — Institut für Angewandte Physik, Universität Bonn, Germany

The correlation of arrival times of fluorescence photons emitted by a single neutral atom stored in the MOT has been numerically simulated. Photon correlations at nanosecond scales (Rabi oscillations), at microseconds (polarization correlations), and at milliseconds (position correlations) reveal the dynamical behaviour of the atomic excitation, of the atomic orientation, and of its transport in the trap at both the optical wavelength scale and the trap size. Modeling and visualization of results of experiments with single trapped atoms are presented.
