Programmable femtosecond laser pulses in the MIR — •T. Witte, D. Zeidler, D. Proch, and M. Motzkus — Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, Hans-Kopfermann-Str.1, D-85748 Garching, Germany

We present a scheme to produce modulated laser pulses in the mid-infrared by difference frequency mixing of shaped near infrared pulses. The 100fs signal output of a conventional OPA at ≈ 1,3 µm is shaped in amplitude and phase with a liquid crystal mask in a 4f-setup. This tailored pulse and the OPA idler pulse are then difference frequency mixed in an AgGaS2 crystal to produce modulated fs MIR pulses in the 3-5µm wavelength range. Theoretical simulations, which include both the shaping and the subsequent mixing process have been performed to investigate possible waveforms in the MIR. These predictions are set against modulated experimental MIR pulses at 3µm center wavelength.
