Optical Parametric Amplification of Shaped White Light Continuum — •D. Zeidler, T. Witte, D. Proch, and M. Motzkus — Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, Hans-Kopfermann-Str. 1, D-85748 Garching, Germany

We propose a scheme to produce tailored femtosecond (fs) pulses in the visible via the parametric amplification of spectrally modulated white light. Our setup is based on a noncollinear OPA which is pumped with 100fs, 812nm pulses. The seed continuum is shaped by a liquid crystal mask implemented in a 4f-setup and amplified by the frequency-doubled fundamental pulses. The noncollinear mixing process gives rise to an ultrabroad amplification bandwidth which routinely results in the generation of sub-20 fs pulses. We examine schemes to tailor the output of the OPA via shaping phase and amplitude of the white light, without changing the mechanical setup of the OPA (crystal orientation, delay between seed continuum and pump). Pulses with programmable center wavelength and bandwidth as well as two-colour pulses have been demonstrated. Since shaping occurs prior to amplification, energy losses encountered when directly shaping the OPA output can be avoided.
