The one-atom maser or micromaser is a unique tool for the investigation of quantum aspects of the interaction of radiation and matter as well subtleties of the quantum measurment process. It is well known that in the one-atom maser nonclassical fields can be generated. Recently we demonstrated that even Fock states can be archieved. In this paper we present the first investigation of the phase behaviour of the micromaser field. The measurment method uses a classical field which is coupled into the cavity. The phase diffusion is then obtained by observing the inversion of the pumping atoms after the maser cavity. This method also allows to establish the connection between amplitude and phase of the maser field and to measure the Wigner function of the field [1].
