A substantial challenge in operating an interferometric gravitational wave detector is the vibration isolation of the optical components. The British-German gravitational wave detector GEO 600, the construction of which is almost complete, is using a system of passive and active vibration isolation.

The passive isolation stage consists of cascaded low-dissipation pendulum stages which are electronically damped on their resonance frequencies.

The active isolation stage uses motion sensors and 3-dimensional-piezo-actuators to detect and reduce vibrations with low Fourier frequencies (<20 Hz) by applying feedback and feedforward control.

We will show the setup and the overall performance of the vibration isolation system.
