Noncollinearly phase matched optical parametric amplifiers (NOPA) deliver ultrabroadband pulses throughout the visible. To obtain durations around 10 fs these kHz repetition rate pulses have to be compressed with the help of prism sequences, chirped mirrors or phase modulators. We have used SPIDER (spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction) to determine the spectral and temporal phase of the pulses with high update rates. The higher order contributions to the chirp that are not compensated in the various arrangements or even introduced by them can be clearly seen. This is demonstrated by comparison of the SPIDER traces for pulses compressed in SF10 and fused silica prism compressors and pulses compressed with chirped mirrors. A further improvement of the pulse quality will be possible if the end mirror of the prism compressor is replaced by a deformable mirror. For the optimal adjustment of this mirror the quasi-online information from the SPIDER measurement is used.
