Decoherence of Atomic Gases in Largely Detuned Laser Fields — •Karl-Peter Marzlin — Fakultät für Physik der Universität Konstanz, Germany

We study theoretically the decoherence of a gas of ultracold bosonic atoms induced by the interaction with a largely detuned laser beam. It is shown that for a standing laser beam the decoherence coincides with the single-particle result whereas for a running laser beam additional position-dependent terms do appear which significantly change the decoherence behaviour.
