Monte Carlo studies on the sensitivity of the HEGRA IACTs system in observations of the extended gamma-ray sources — •Fabrizio Lucarelli1,2 and Alexander Konopelko11Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg — 2Facultad de Ciencias Fisicas, Universidad "Complutense", Madrid

The HEGRA (High Energy Gamma Ray Astronomy) collaboration operates an array of 5 imaging atmospheric Čerenkov telescopes (IACTs) deployed at the Canary Island of La Palma. The HEGRA IACTs large field of view of 4.3 permits to study extended sources of TeV γ-rays such as Supernovae Remnants (SNR), SNR interacting with dense molecular clouds, Plerions, and so on. Based on the Monte Carlo simulations we have studied the response of the IACTs array over its 5· 10−3 str field of view with respect to the cosmic rays and diffuse γ-ray emission. We have derived a parametrization of the detection efficiency vs the angular distance up to around 3 from the center of field of view. We concluded an almost constant array’s sensitivity to the γ-ray fluxes (with the variation of ≤ 10%) within the angular distance of 1 deg from the joint optical axis of the telescopes’ array after the analysis by mean scaled width.
