Study of WW scattering at the TESLA Linear Collider — •Stefano Rosati1, Roberto Chierici2, and Michael Kobel11Physikalisches Institut der Universität Bonn — 2CERN, Geneva

One of the most outstanding problems in modern particle physics is how the breaking of the SU(2)L×U(1)Y gauge symmetry is realized in Nature. In absence of light Higgs bosons, new physics coupled to the Standard Model is needed at the TeV scale to restore the unitarity of the model. One of the basic testing grounds for this new interaction is the elastic scattering of W bosons: WWWW or WWZZ. WW scattering at low energies can be effectively described by a Lagrangian containing the gauge interactions plus two additional 4-D interaction terms, depending on two anomalous couplings (known as α4, α5), which are both zero in the frame of the Standard Model. We present a study on possible limits on α4, α5 at the TESLA Linear Collider. In this study a realistic simulation of the TESLA detector was used, assuming √s=800 GeV, 1000 fb−1 of integrated luminosity and e, e+ beam polarisations of 80% and 40%, respectively. Experimental analyses of the two channels e+eW+Wννqqqqνν and e+eZZννqqqqνν, and of all relevant background processes were performed, and the expected error on the cross section measurement was optimized. A Binned Maximum Likelihood fit for the two anomalous couplings α4, α5 was applied to evaluate the expected sensitivity. The improvement of the sensitivity introduced by the beam polarisation was also studied.
