Fusion and quasifision in collisions of heavy nuclei — •T.M. Shneidman1,2, G.G. Adamian1, N.V. Antonenko1, A. Diaz-Torres2, and W. Scheid21Institute für Theoretische Physik der Justus-Liebig-Universit ät, 35392 Giessen — 2Joint institute for Nuclear Research, 141980, Dubna, Russia

The formation of superheavy nuclei by collisions of heavy nuclei can be described with the dinuclear system concept. The evaporation residue cross sections of actinides and superheavy nuclei are calculated as the product of the capture cross section, of the probability to form the compound nucleus by transferring nucleons between the nuclei in the dinuclear system configuration and of the surviving probability of the fused system. In competition with the formation of the compound system is the quasifission of the dinuclear configuration. Distributions of the fragment masses and charges in quasifission give information on the time-development of the dinuclear system. Agreement between calculated and experimental quasifission yields is found.
