Kaon production in pion-nucleon scattering — •Achot M. Gasparian, Johann Haidenbauer, and Josef Speth — FZ Jülich, IKP, 52425 Jülich

The reactions π NKΛ and π NKΣ are essential for the understanding of kaon production in nucleon-nucleon scattering [1,2]. We study these processes in a microscopic coupled channel model in the meson exchange framework. We build up on a model of the π N system, presented recently by the Jülich group [3], which already contains explicitly the channels π N, ρ N, η N, π N*(1520), σ N and π Δ. The interactions in the strangeness channels (KΛ, KΣ) and the transitions potentials into those channels are assumed to be of one-boson-exchange type. The influence of possible contributions from resonance diagrams is discussed.
