Polarization properties of coherent x-radiation produced by 72 MeV electrons interacting with the (111) plane of a 20 µm thick silicon crystal and observed at an angle of 20.9 have been investigated experimentally at the superconducting electron linac S-DALINAC. The energy resolved polarization analysis was carried out with a multidetector Compton scattering polarimeter of 76% analyzing power. The measurements confirm results from a previous exploratory experiment [1] with substantially improved accuracy. Averaged values of the direction and the degree of linear polarization inside the polarimeter acceptance are compared with expectations based on the perturbation (or kinematical) theory of coherent polarization radiation. The comparison shows good agreement and thus excludes the previously discussed Čerenkov model.
