Antihyperon-Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collision — •carsten greiner and stefan leupold — Institut fuer Theoretische Physik, Universitaet Giessen

Enhanced antihyperon production, as observed at CERN SPS, is regarded as one of the experimentally obtained cornerstones for the formation of a new state of matter, the quark gluon plasma. We show, however, that antihyperons are driven towards local chemical equilibrium with pions, nucleons and kaons on a timescale of 1–2 fm/c when considering the inverse channel of hadronic annihilation reactions like Ȳ+pn1π + n2 K. These multi-mesonic reactions easily explain the antihyperon yields at CERN-SpS energies as advertised in pure thermal, hadronic models without the need of a quark gluon plasma phase. In addition, the argument also does nicely apply at AGS energies and (future) GSI energies.
