Investigation of the Electronic Structure of OLED Materials — •Markus Bach, Helmut Schürmann, and Manfred Neumann — Universität Osnabrück, Fachbereich Physik, Barbarastrasse 7, 49069 Osnabrück

OLED (organic light emitting devices) materials can be characterised by weakly bound π-electrons. High resolutiuon X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to investigate. Thin films of quarterphenyl and sexiphenyl (about 40 Å) which were evaporated on a GaAs(001) surface. From the shake-up processes in the C1s region the gap between the HOMOs and LUMOs could be deduced and compared with other phenyl structures and calculations.
