The use of electrically semiconducting polymer networks obtained by crosslinking oxetane-functionalized monomers in organic light- emitting diodes was studied. The crosslinked films were found to be absolutely insoluble, enabling the preparation of organic heterostructures with an arbitrary number of layers by solution casting only. Layer-by-layer deposition did not lead to internal barriers for charge carriers. Co-polymerization of different monomers was demonstrated, allowing the simple tuning of electrical and optical properties. Highly-efficient blue light- emitting diodes (2.7 Cd/A at 1000 Cd/m2), consisting of a graded hole-transport layer with three electronic levels and a polyfluorene emissive layer, were fabricated [CPC 1(4), 2000]. We will discuss the chemical and morphological stability of the layers under high current throughput and the optimization of the individual layers by a combinatorial approach.
