d.c. magnetization anomalies for RuSr2GdCu2O8 can not be explained by Sr2GdRuO6 impurities — •Thomas P. Papageorgiou, Thomas Herrmannsdörfer, Timo Mai, Tobias Ernst, and Hans F. Braun — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bayreuth, D-95440 Bayreuth

d.c. magnetization measurements performed on a polycrystalline sample of RuSr2GdCu2O8 (Ru-1212) showed distinct peaks of the magnetization upon entering the superconducting state. Sr2GdRuO6 (Sr-2116) was used as a precursor for the preparation of the Ru-1212 sample. Therefore, a detailed investigation of the magnetic properties of Sr-2116 was done in order to investigate the possibility of explaining the anomalies observed for Ru-1212 in terms of Sr-2116 impurities in the sample. The results show that the peaks observed for Ru-1212 can not be due to Sr-2116 impurity phases.
