Cluster EDI convection measurements in the dayside magnetosphere — •Hans Vaith1, Götz Paschmann1, Pamela Puhl-Quinn1, Jack Quinn2, Edita Georgescu1, and Berndt Klecker11Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, D-85741 Garching, Deutschland — 2Space Science Center, Morse Hall, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH 03824, USA

The Electron Drift Instrument (EDI) on Cluster determines the plasma drift velocity by injecting two weak electron beams and measuring their displacement and time of flight after one or more gyrations in the ambient magnetic field. EDI measures the full drift velocity, including its component along the spacecraft spin axis. In this presentation we use the EDI measurements to discuss plasma convection in the magnetosphere up to the magnetopause.
