Inclusive D^* production in two-photon events — •Anbang Ngac — Fachbereich Physik,Universität-Gesamthochschule Siegen,D - 57068 Siegen

An update of the previous ALEPH measurement of the inclusive production of charged D^* mesons in anti-tagged photon-photon collisions is reported using data collected at e⁺e⁻ centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 209 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 698 pb⁻¹. The D^* mesons are reconstructed from their decay to D⁰ and π⁺ with the D⁰ observed in the decay modes (i) K⁻π⁺, (ii) K⁻π⁺π⁰, and (iii) K⁻π⁺π⁻π⁺. Differential cross sections of D^* production as a function of the transverse momentum p_t and the pseudorapidity η of the D^* meson have been measured in the kinematic region 2 GeV < p_t(D^*) < 12 GeV and |η(D^*)| < 1.5. The results are compared to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations. An extrapolation of the integrated visible D^* cross section to the total charm production cross section has been performed using predictions of the PYTHIA Monte Carlo program.
