Quantum computing is still a rather young but fast growing field in physics, and so far various approaches to this topic have been made (experimentally and in theory).

In this talk we present an alternative approach to quantum computing using the vibrational modes of a molecule to encode qubit systems. To implement one and two quantum logic gates within the qubit system we use femtosecond laser pulses which are designed applying optimal control theory.

Acetylene serves as a two-dimensional model system to show the realizability of our approach to quantum computing. Fundamental logic gates ( with ratios of more than 90% in each case) and the preparation of entanglement are presented.
