Study of the Ca2 ground state by Fourier transform spectroscopy — •A. Pashov, O. Allard, H. Knöckel und E. Tiemann — SFB 407, Institut für Quantenoptik, Universität Hannover

We used laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) combined with a high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer to study the Ca2 B1 Σ u+X 1 Σ g+ so-called green-system. Calcium dimers were produced in a stainless steel heat pipe oven heated up to 1300 K. The analysis of a total of 6364 differencies (with average experimental error of 0.008cm−1)of B-X transition with a commin upper level has been used to construct the ground state potential energy curve (PEC). For this determination we used two different representations: an analytical and a point-wise potential. Using both representations we were able to determine accurate and identical (within the experimental error) PECs which describe the experimental data with a standard deviation of 0.0065cm−1. This work has allowed us to make a reliable prediction of the dissociation energy De = 1102.3 ± 0.5 cm−1 which differs significantly from the value of the previous study by C.R. Vidal, J. Chem. Phys. 72, 1864 (1980).
